People take in the view as a boat passes by at Percy Priest Lake in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019. The temperature reached the low 60s on Saturday afternoon.

A missing boater was found dead Friday on Percy Priest Lake just before dark near Four Corners Marina, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Wildlife officials responded to a call from witnesses who reported a male and female aboard a personal watercraft were leaving the no wake zone at the marina. A short time later the watercraft overturned.

A friend, aboard a second vessel, offered aid to the couple and was able to get the female to safety. Efforts to rescue the male were unsuccessful.

The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The incident is under investigation.

TWRA officers along with divers from the Davidson County Office of Emergency Management used a remote operated vehicle that employs sonar imaging to locate and recover the body near where the individual was last seen.

The individual was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the recovery, however, an unbuckled personal flotation device was found floating nearby.

It was the eighth boating fatality in Tennessee this year.
